The Kitchen is where your SOUL heals

“A mother is always the beginning. She is how things begin.”
― Amy Tan, The Bonesetter’s Daughter
For some, cooking is a chore, an experiment or an entertaining leisure activity. For me, cooking is therapeutic. Cooking to me is a way to calm my mind; it enriches and soothes my soul. The process helps me to focus and allows me to slow down and take a breather from the hustles of life, whilst nourishing my body with good wholesome food. It makes me be more attentive and aware of what I feed my body – learning and knowing the ingredients, fueling myself with good nutritious food.
Not only that, cooking has been a way of carrying on with traditions and learning recipes from my mother and other family members. Some of which were food that I loved growing up. It is a wonderful way to bond with them (albeit the nagging at times for not doing things their way) too!
I am all ears when it comes to simple and easy recipes but I’ve come to realise that with certain food, time is needed and the end result is worth all the sweat in the kitchen. Especially baking!! It takes a lot of patience, finesse and repetition to get it right.
This page will act as a food diary of recipes I’ve tried and tested. It will serve as a memory of each bonding session with my mother and other family members when I try making their version of a recipe.
